This sculptural silver necklace is the Auriga model, also known as Man in the Crater, designed by Björn Weckström for Lapponia.
The pendant features a distinct three-dimensional shape with Weckström's typical rough crater landscape and a small human figure in the center.
The design was certainly in production in 1977. I have not been able to ascertain an exact design or introduction date.
This particular piece bears the Finnish date letter A8 for 1978 and can therefore be considered an early execution of Auriga.
The original Lapponia chain consists of slender silver bars connected by soldered linking eyes. The pendant is attached to the central bar and cannot be removed from the chain. The chain closes with a simple hook clasp.
The chain is 47 cm long. As the pendant is directly attached to the center of the chain, the entire piece extends another 3.8 cm downwards at the front.
The back of the pendant is hallmarked with 925, the Finnish national silver hallmark with the crown in the heart, Lapponia's maker's mark, 925, and the date letter A8 for 1978. An eyelet near the clasp also bears Z1, the Dutch re-assay mark for silver. The last bar of the chain is fully marked with LAPPONIA.
The necklace is in very good vintage condition. There is hardly any wear visible on the linking eyes. It has clearly not led a hard life.

After delivery, the ring will not be resized in the workshop. If necessary, you can have it resized locally at a jeweler of your choice.
