This antique brooch combines a sleek geometric shape with exceptionally fine and colorful inlay work. The elongated green plaque has bevelled corners and broad, flat-cut facets. A silver border with a continuously engraved leaf motif runs around it.

The narrow panel in the centre consists of individually cut and engraved pieces of mother-of-pearl, iridescent abalone, and small loops and threads of silver. Together, they form a playful floral mosaic in which soft pink and white hues are interspersed with blue-green sparkles.

The inlay work was likely first assembled as a separate panel and then placed as a whole into the green plaque. The technique shows strong similarities to Japanese Shibayama inlay work. Such panels were made for the Western market during the late Meiji period and could later be mounted into European jewellery. A Japanese origin of the panel is possible, but cannot be confirmed with certainty.

Based on its geometric design, mounting style, and comparable examples, the brooch likely dates from circa 1910–1925 and is of continental Western European origin.

The transparent green material is possibly chalcedony or agate, also known as green onyx, but coloured glass cannot be entirely ruled out.

The reverse is marked with the silver purity 935. The pin mechanism, and especially the current clasp, appears to have been replaced or altered later. Traces of this repair are visible on the reverse. The front and the delicate inlay work are exceptionally well preserved.
