Antique lavalier pendant from the Edwardian period, early 20th century.
The pendant is constructed of finely curved gold wires that together form an open and symmetrical structure. A round amethyst is set in a claw setting at the center. At the bottom, a second round amethyst hangs freely suspended beneath the central structure.
The pendant is further decorated with several small seed pearls, set in small settings and leaf motifs along the central line of the design. The pendant's eyelet is also set with seed pearls.
This type of pendant is often referred to as an Edwardian lavaliere pendant , a graceful and light design that was typical of the period around 1900.
The central amethyst has one prong of the setting shorter than the other. The stone is still firmly in place because the remaining prongs are intact. This small detail is only visible upon close inspection.
The pendant is marked on the back with 9CT .
