Hoe weet ik mijn ringmaat?
Je kunt je ringmaat op verschillende manieren meten, afhankelijk van of je al een goed passende ring hebt of helemaal vanaf nul begint.
1. Met een goed passende ring (snelste methode)
Neem een ring die je al goed past op de juiste vinger.
- Meet de binnen-diameter met een liniaal in millimeters.
Tip: Meet zo precies mogelijk; een halve millimeter kan al een verschil maken in draagcomfort!
2. Met een meetlint of touwtje (als je geen ring hebt)
- Wikkel een dun touwtje of strookje papier strak rond de vinger waar de ring komt.
- Zorg dat het strak genoeg zit, maar niet knelt.
- Markeer het punt waar het touwtje elkaar overlapt en meet de lengte in millimeters.
Dit is de omtrek van je vinger en komt overeen met je ringmaat (bijvoorbeeld 54 mm = maat 54).
Let op: Je vingers kunnen overdag iets dikker worden door warmte of vocht. Meet daarom ’s avonds voor de meest accurate maat.
Welke lengte van ketting past bij mij ?
Hoe een ketting valt, hangt af van je lengte en de dikte van je nek.
Wil je zeker weten hoe een bepaalde lengte bij jou uitkomt, gebruik een touwtje om te zien hoe een ketting zal vallen.
- Choker (35-40 cm) – Sluit strak rond de hals.
- Princess (42-50 cm) – De meest klassieke lengte, valt net onder het
sleutelbeen. - Matinee (50-60 cm) – Ideaal voor een iets langere, elegante look.
- Opera (70-90 cm) – Een langere ketting die je speels kan knopen of dubbel dragen.
- Rope (90+ cm) – Super veelzijdig! Draag ‘m lang of als dubbele ketting.
Hoe bepaal je de maat van je armband?
1 - Meet je polsomtrek
Je meet je pols onder de knokkel op je arm met een meetlint.
Als je geen meetlint hebt, gebruik dan een touwtje en een meetlat om het touwtje op te meten.
Zorg ervoor dat je het meetlint of het touwtje niet strak om je pols aantrekt maar enkel aansluitend.
2 - Bepaal de lengte
Als je de omtrek van je pols hebt gemeten kan je overgaan naar het bepalen van de lengte van de armband.
De lengte van de armband is afhankelijk van je polsomtrek maar ook hoe je de
armband wilt dragen.
De ene draagt een armband graag strak terwijl iemand anders misschien graag een losse armband heeft.
Voor een strak zittende armband tel je 1,5cm erbij, voor een normaal zittende
armband 2cm en een ruime 3cm.
3 - Voorbeeld
Mijn polsomtrek is 16cm dus de lengtes voor mijn pols zijn:
- Strakke armband: 16 cm + 1,5cm = 17,5cm
- Normale armband: 16 cm + 2 cm = 18cm
- Ruime armband: 16 cm + 3 cm = 19cm
Hoe bepaal je de maat van je bangle armband?
Een bangle armband is een stijve armband zonder sluiting. De maat wordt niet bepaald door de polsomtrek, maar door de breedste plek van je hand.
1 - Maak je hand zo smal mogelijk
Breng je duim en pink naar elkaar toe, alsof je een bangle om je hand schuift.
2 - Meet de breedste plek
Gebruik een meetlint of een liniaal om de binnenmaat van je hand te meten (van knokkel tot knokkel over de breedste plek).
3 - Vergelijk met standaard maten
De meeste bangles hebben een binnen-diameter van:
- S: 5,7 cm (kleine handen)
- M: 6,3 cm (gemiddelde maat)
- L: 6,8 cm (grotere handen)
Tip: Als je al een bangle hebt die goed past, kun je die plat neerleggen en de binnen-diameter meten.
Hoe bepaal je de maat van je cuff armband?
Bij een open bangle of cuff armband is niet alleen de polsomtrek belangrijk, maar vooral de breedte en dikte van de pols, omdat je de armband niet over je hand schuift, maar dwars over de pols
aanbrengt.
1 - Meet de breedte van je pols
- Leg een liniaal of meetlint plat op de bovenkant van je pols
- Meet van de ene zijkant naar de andere, op de plek waar de armband komt te zitten.
- Dit geeft je een indicatie van de binnenmaat van de armband.
2 – Meet de dikte van je pols
Dit is vooral belangrijk bij bredere cuffs.
Een volle, ronde pols heeft meer ruimte nodig dan een platte, smalle pols.
3 – Houd rekening met de opening
De meeste open armbanden hebben een opening van 2,5 - 3,5 cm.
Een te kleine opening maakt het moeilijk om de armband aan te doen, een te grote opening kan ervoor zorgen dat hij afglijdt.
4 - Hoe kies je de juiste maat?
De binnenmaat van de armband moet ongeveer overeenkomen met de breedte van je pols.
- S : ±5 cm breed, opening ±2,5 cm
- M : ±5,5 cm breed, opening ±3 cm
- L : ±6 cm breed, opening ±3,5 cm
Als je al een open bangle hebt die goed zit, leg hem plat neer en meet de binnenmaat en opening om te vergelijken met een nieuwe armband.
Bij een cuff die licht buigbaar is, kun je hem iets aanpassen, maar buig met
beleid—te veel kracht kan het metaal verzwakken of breken.
Over Metaal
Wat is een legering?
Puur zilver en goud zijn van nature te zacht om als sieraad lang mee te gaan. Daarom worden ze gemengd met andere metalen, zoals koper, om ze sterker en duurzamer te maken.
Deze samenstelling is een legering.
De samenstelling van een legering bepaalt de kleur en eigenschappen van het sieraad. Zo krijgt roségoud zijn warme tint door extra koper en wordt witgoud lichter door bijvoorbeeld palladium (vroeger nikkel).
Ook zilver wordt gemengd met koper.
Door deze legeringen kunnen sieraden generaties lang meegaan!
Wat is het verschil tussen Zilvergehalte 800, 835, 925?
Deze getallen geven aan hoeveel puur zilver er in de legering zit, uitgedrukt in delen per 1000.
Omdat puur zilver te zacht
is voor sieraden, wordt het gemengd met andere metalen (meestal koper) om het sterker en slijtvaster te maken.
Het zilvergehalte wordt aangegeven in de stempel op het sieraad:
- 800 zilver = 80% zilver, 20% andere metalen
- 835 zilver = 83,5% zilver, 16,5% andere metalen
- 925 zilver (sterling zilver) = 92,5% zilver, 7,5% andere metalen
Er zijn nog vele andere gehaltes, zoals 830, 875 , 950,.. welk gehalte hangt af van land tot land maar ook van de periode waarin het sieraad werd gemaakt.
Zo zijn oude sieraden dikwijls gemaakt in 800 en 835 zilver.
Hoe hoger het zilvergehalte, hoe waardevoller (ten opzichte van het metaal) het sieraad en hoe minder snel het verkleurt.
Wat is het verschil tussen 8, 9, 10, 14 en 18 karaat goud en is dat hetzelfde als gehaltes?
Karaat (kt) geeft aan hoeveel puur goud er in een legering zit, uitgedrukt in delen per 24.
Het goudgehalte is hetzelfde maar dan uitgedrukt in delen per 1000.
Omdat goud op zichzelf een zacht metaal is, wordt het gemengd met andere metalen zoals koper, zilver of palladium om het sterker te maken en de kleur te beïnvloeden.
De meest voorkomende goudlegeringen:
- 8 karaat = Gehalte 333 → 33,3% goud, 66,7% andere metalen (bv. Duitsland)
- 9 karaat = Gehalte 375 → 37,5% goud, 62,5% andere metalen (bv. VK)
- 10 karaat = Gehalte 417 → 41,7% goud, 58,3% andere metalen (bv. VS)
- 14 karaat = Gehalte 585 → 58,5% goud, 41,5% andere metalen (Bv. Nederland)
- 18 karaat = Gehalte 750 → 75% goud, 25% andere metalen (bv. België)
Hoe hoger het karaatgehalte, hoe meer puur goud het sieraad bevat – maar ook hoe zachter en kwetsbaarder het is. 8 en 9 karaat zijn steviger en minder gevoelig voor krassen, terwijl 18 karaat een diepere gouden gloed heeft en minder snel oxideert.
Wat is oxidatie?
Oxidatie is een natuurlijke chemische reactie waarbij een metaal reageert met zuurstof, vocht of andere stoffen in de lucht. Dit kan zorgen voor een aanslag of verkleuring op sieraden.
Vooral zilver is gevoelig voor oxidatie, waardoor het donkerder kan worden of zwart uitslaan, maar ook goud kan oxideren.
Is oxidatie hetzelfde als roest?
Nee.
Roest komt voor bij ijzer en breekt het metaal af. Oxidatie bij zilver of goud is een oppervlakkige aanslag en kan makkelijk verwijderd worden.
Hoe kan ik oxidatie voorkomen?
Oxidatie kan zelden volledig tegengegaan worden, maar deze tips kan het wel beperken:
- Bewaren op een droge plek – liefst luchtdicht
- Vermijd vocht en chemicaliën (zoals parfum en zeep)
- Regelmatig dragen
Hoe verwijder ik oxidatie?
Met de meegeleverde zilverpoetsdoek kan je de oppervlakkige aanslag eenvoudig verwijderen.
Allergie
Ik heb een nikkelallergie. Kan ik de sieraden van Feniks dragen?
Dat hangt ervan af!
Omdat al onze sieraden vintage zijn, weten we niet altijd precies welke metalen in de legering zitten. Wil je zeker weten of er nikkel in zit? Dan test ik dat met veel plezier voor jou!

In welke sieraden kan er nikkel zitten?
Nikkel kan verwerkt zitten in zilver en wit goud.
Kan je nog allergisch zijn voor een ander metaal?
Er zijn nog andere metalen die een reactie kunnen geven, maar die komen minder vaak voor.
Eén daarvan is koper. Dit kan bij sommige mensen een groene verkleuring op de huid achterlaten, vooral als je veel zweet. Dit is een chemische reactie, geen allergie!
Koper zit verwerkt in zilver, geelgoud en roségoud.
