Matti J. Hyvärinen (1937–2017) was an influential Finnish jewelry designer, sculptor and painter. In 1958, at the age of only 21, he founded founded his own company, Sirokoru , in Turku, Finland.
Vision & Style
Matti J. Hyvärinen was known for his modernist designs, often executed in silver, and his innovative approach to jewelry as wearable works of art .
He translated the power of natural forces into metal. Not decorative, but expressive.
He did this by using textures reminiscent of rocks , tree bark or frozen water .
Shapes that wave like wind or water and lines that are not perfect, but alive.
International breakthrough and recognitions
In 1967 , Matti J. Hyvärinen the Diamonds International Award for his brooch The Rich and the Poor . This award, organized by De Beers, is considered one of the highest international recognitions in the jewelry world.
In 1987 he was named Goldsmith of the Year by the Finnish Goldsmiths' Association. He was the first to receive this title, which underlines his status as a pioneer in the Finnish jewellery trade.
Current Sirokoru
Matti J. Hyvärinen passed away in 2017 but his jewelry brand Sirokoru continues to exist. Sirokoru is now run by his children Tina and Tomi Hyvärinen.
Sirokoru uses a proprietary silver alloy, EcoAct Silver , with a silver content of 96.4%.
This alloy is environmentally friendly and allows the company to produce jewelry without harmful chemicals or emissions.
